Jane Bonett was born on 26 June 1938 in Sliema, Malta.1 She died on 22 June 2023 at South San Francisco, CA, USA, at age 84. She was buried at Italian Cemetery, Colma, CA, USA.
As of 1956,her married name was Healey.1 Research: Maltese Social Club records in 2013. She and (?) Maltese Elders were living in 2022; Jane Healey.
Obituary: : Mom was born on June 26, 1938 in Sliema Malta along with her 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Mom moved to Port Colborne Canada in 1956 to be married to dad. Two years later they moved to California. Found themselves a nice home in SSF and started their journey in raising a family.
Jane enjoyed reading, traveling, road trips, going to Lake Pillsbury, going to the Maltese American Social Club, and going to church doing the weekly readings. She enjoyed volunteering with the church, seniors center, and Maltese club.
Mom met dad at a dance in Valetta Malta when dad came back to Malta from Canada for a 4-month vacation. They enjoyed each other’s company during these next 4 months. It was time for dad to head back to Port Colborne. After a while dad realized he had met an amazing woman and decided to propose to her. He sent the proposal in a Telegram on her birthday June 26th, 1956. She waited until his birthday, July 18th, to reply back, of course she said YES. Mom then flew to Canada to be married October 6, 1956. Mom was just 18 years old leaving her family behind in Sliema Malta to start a whole new chapter, it was always an adventure with dad.
Mom worked as a school teacher assistant in her younger years in Sliema Malta. When she moved to Port Colborne Canada she started working in the hospital as a nurse assistance in the OR. Two years later they moved to California. They rented a small flat from family friend until they found their dream home in SSF. Mom started working at Planter Peanuts in SF as a key punch operator. She continued to work with Planters Peanuts for many years until the company moved to Boise, Idaho. She then started working at The GAP corporate accounting office located in San Bruno. After several years she then retired to enjoy her time with dad, traveling, taking road trips, you never knew where they would end up. They would just get in the car and see where they landed. Most times it was always along the coast. She loved the ocean. She enjoyed going to Lake Pillsbury and waiting for dad to come back from fishing so she can have her fresh trout. Dad always came in with his limit and some in his pockets. She was able to get in a couple more trips to Malta to visit her older sister Hilda, nieces and nephews. Her biggest dream was to go to Australia and visit her older brother Joe, and younger brother Louis. This was the first trip she took shortly after retirement. She enjoyed 6 months of reuniting with her brothers. She even got in a few cruises to Mexico, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Mom always got motion sick, or maybe it was dads driving. We were shocked to hear when they told us they are going on a Mexican cruise out of SF for 7 days. Needless to say, they had a wonderful time with no motion sickness. This opened a new adventure, they then went on an Alaskan cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary, and then another cruise with the family to the Caribbean in 2015.
